In British Columbia, you do not typically need a doctor’s referral to access physiotherapy services. Direct access to physiotherapy allows individuals to seek treatment from a physiotherapist without a referral from a physician or other healthcare provider. However, some extended health insurance plans may require a doctor’s referral for coverage purposes. It’s always a good idea to check with your insurance provider to understand the specific requirements and coverage details. Additionally, in certain cases, such as if you are involved in an ICBC claim, a doctor’s referral may be necessary for coverage or claim-related purposes.
In British Columbia, the Medical Services Plan (MSP) provides coverage for a portion of the cost of physiotherapy services for eligible individuals ($23). MSP coverage for physiotherapy includes a combined annual limit of 10 visits per calendar year. It’s important to note that these visit limits are subject to change, and it’s advisable to check the most up-to-date information from Health BC or consult with our Admin Team to understand your current coverage and any specific conditions or requirements for eligibility.
